How it works
Vitamin B6 helps to maintain the body's water balance by suppressing aldosterone which may be implicated in the fluid retention often associated with premenstrual syndrome. It is also involved in the utilisation of magnesium, (deficiency of which may lead to menstrual cramping) and helps linoleic acid function better in the body (disruption of this essential fatty acid is a contributing factor in premenstrual syndrome). A higher intake of B6 is advisable whilst on long-term oral contraceptive therapy.
The sustained release system used by Blackmores is based on a unique plant gum matrix, using guar gum from the seeds of a legume. The sustained release principle involves the leaching of vitamins and minerals from the tablet `core' as it passes through the gastrointestinal tract.
