Senna (Cassia angustifolia) originally comes from Egypt and goes by the name of Alexandrian senna. Its leaves are used for medicinal purposes as herbal dynamite for constipation. Senna has purgative effects and it helps to increase the peristaltic movements of the colon by its local action upon the intestinal wall.

Fennel seed (Foeniculum vulgare) has anti-inflammatory and diuretic effects. It acts as a digestive aid which is beneficial for gas and bloating. It can also be used for respiratory infections and increasing milk flow in breastfeeding women.

Cleavers (Galium aparine) is also known as goosegrass and catchweed because of its sticky leaves. It has long been valued as a tonic for the lymphatic system. It is beneficial for skin disorders such as psoriasis, eczema and acne; swollen glands and urinary stones. Cleavers also possess diuretic properties.

Couch grass (Agropyron repens) has diuretic and demulcent properties. It has been used in cystitis and catarrhal diseases of the bladder. It aids in alleviating irritation of the urinary passages.

Yarrow (Achillea millefolium), also known as soldier’s herb, has been used medicinally for centuries. It has anti-inflammatory, antiseptic and diuretic effects. It has been beneficial for gastrointestinal problems, menstrual disorders, venous problems, fevers, colds and haemorrhoids.

Rose hips ( Rosa spp.) are fruits of the rose that appear in late summer or fall. It has a zesty acidic but fruity taste due to the rich amount of ascorbic acid (vitamin C) present. Fresh rose hips are found to contain 60 times as much vitamin C as oranges. This makes rose hips beneficial for preventing infection, improving various skin conditions and aiding stomach ulcers, nervousness, liver problems and rheumatism.

Marshmallow (Althaea officinalis) has a reputation as a soothing and healing plant. It has demulcent, emollient, diuretic, anti-inflammatory and expectorant actions. Marshmallow is useful for stomach and duodenal ulcers, catarrh, coughs, colds and urinary tract infections.

Ginger root (Zingiber officinale) is highly recognised as a spice. It has been used medicinally for thousands of years by Chinese physicians. It acts as an antioxidant and has antibacterial, anti-inflammatory, anti-clotting and pain-killing properties. Ginger aids in improving liver function, lowering cholesterol, relieving nausea and vomiting, and improving digestion, as well as having beneficial effects on the heart.
