The wood of the walnut tree is a popular choice for panelling and cabinet making, and the nuts are often used in cakes. The Black Walnut tree produces greenish-yellow fruit. While still on the tree the walnut has a greenish-yellow pulp, however the pulp then turns black when on the ground. This is when the herb is harvested. It is the rind (hull) rather than the seed that is of particular interest to herbalists.
