Weleda Arnica Cream is widely used to relieve bruises, sprains and muscle aches. It promotes the absorption of bruising, reduces inflammation and has an analgesic effect that soothes both muscle and joint pain. The European mountain flower, Arnica (Arnica montana) has been used for centuries in herbal medicine. Weleda Arnica Cream contains both Arnica flower and root extracts and essential oils.

Arnica is from an important medicinal plant family, the Compositae family, which includes Chamomile, Calendula, Echinacea, Dandelion, Chicory and Yarrow. They are all known for their anti -inflammatory qualities. This plant family is uniquely characterised by flowers that are in fact, hundreds of individual flowers gathered on a single base and appearing like a single flower. Arnica has an unusually strong rhizome and root which forms a dense mat underground. I It requires an environment with extreme differences in both daylight, and summer/winter temperatures and the strong sunlight normally found high in the mountains. It prefers an acidic, siliceous soil.

Pharmacological actions include:

• the suppression of inflammatory mediators such as prostaglandins;
• the inhibition of platelet aggregation by the interaction of helenalin and its derivatives with platelet sulfhydryl groups, which supports its use in traditional medicine to improve blood flow and therefore reduce bruising.
• The plant also possesses counter-irritant properties due to the isomeric alcohol constituents.Counter-irritation increases local circulation which in turn relieves congestion and inflammation.

Essential Oils (Lemon, Orange, Rosemary, Sage)

• These oils combined are indicated for their anti -inflammatory and analgesic qualities, providing relief from muscular and joint pain. They are warming with a sweet aroma.

Medicinal Uses

• Assists in the treatment of pain, inflammation, swelling and bruising to promote healing.
• First aid to minimise damage to tissue after injury and accidents, eg bruising, sprains, sports injuries, haematoma and dislocations.
• Relieves stiff and strained muscles and reduces muscle ache from over -exertion when applied before and/or after exercise.
• Helps relieve the symptoms of joint and back problems, including arthritis and rheumatism, by reducing pain and inflammation.

Weleda Arnica Cream

• High concentration - 50%. 500mglg. of Arnica extracts, equivalent to dry Arnica 5%. 50mglg - at the time of writing at least 625% more Arnica than our nearest competitor and therefore 6.25 times stronger.
• While many external preparations contain a homoeopathic hic tincture of Arnica, eg Arnica montana Ix, Weleda Arnica Cream contains high concentrations of a traditionally prepared tincture and oil extract of Arnica. This increases the extraction of oil, water and alcohol soluble active ingredients, broadening the therapeutic activity and therefore enhancing the efficacy of Weleda Arnica Cream.
• Completely natural cream containing unbleached beeswax and cold pressed vegetable oils, which deeply moisturises the skin and assists with absorption into damaged tissue.
• Only Arnica Cream free from synthetic fragrances, preservatives, parabens, emulsifying agents and contains no petrochemical derivatives.
• Is a registered medicine (unlike any other Arnica Cream in NZ) and has been manufactured in New Zealand since 1955.
• All Weleda medicines are manufactured to internationally recognised pharmaceutical standards - the Code of Good Manufacturing Practice (GMP).

Each 1g contains:

Tincture equiv. dry: Arnica montana, flower 27mg; Arnica montana, root 3mg; Oil extract equiv. dry: Arnica montana, flower 20mg; and essential oils: Abies pectinata, leaf (Silver fir) Oil 600mcg; Lemon Oil 2mg; Orange Oil Img; Rosemary Oil 2.lmg; Sage Oil Spanish 300mcg; in a base containing natural vegetable oils and beeswax. Contains ethanol.

Directions:

Adults/Children: Gently massage a small amount into the affected area, three to four times daily in the acute stage, and twice daily as the condition improves until symptom free. Or use as directed by your health care professional.

The ingredients in this product have a long history of use and we are not aware of any reports of problems or evidence that they may cause harm during pregnancy at the concentrations used.
