Botanical Name: Ginkgo biloba

Common name: Maidenhair tree, Tempelbaum

Origin: China and the far East

History: The most ancient of all trees Ginkgo Biloba was food for the dinosaurs. Geological records indicate this plant has been growing on earth for 150 - 200 million years.

The name comes from the Chinese Ginko meaning 'silver fruit' or 'white nuts' and was used in early Chinese herbal medicine. Chinese monks are credited with keeping the tree in existence, as a sacred herb.

It was first brought to Europe in the 1700's and it is now a commonly prescribed drug in France and Germany.

Usage

Medicinal Part Used: Dried leaf , fruits, seeds, roots

Ginkgo Biloba is used for:

Blood Conditions

• decreases capillary fragility
• diminished blood flow to the head
• hemorrhoids
• inhibits platelet activity factor (PAF), which is a common allergen in the body
• varicose veins

Brain and Nervous System Conditions

Ginkgo Biloba is used for cerebral insufficiency which is a general term for a collection of symptoms including:
