Information about the herb Cornflower
Centaurea cyanus , also known as Bluebottle is part of the Compositae plant family. Grows wild in England
and has been cultivated the world over as a garden plant in several colors,
not just blue.

Common Names: Batchelor's Button, Bluebottle, Bluebow, Blue Cap, Blue Centaury, Bluet (French), Cyani
History: It is named after the Centaur, Chiron who legend has it taught mankind the healing powers of herbs and the Latin name cyanus after the Goddess Cyanus (Flora) whose favorite flower it was.
Tradition: It was used for:
- an antidote to poisons and venoms combined with Plantain, Horsetail and Comfrey
- the seeds or leaves in wine were said to protect you from the plague and infectious diseases
