Botanical Name: Commophora mukul

Plant Family: Burseracae

Common name: Guggul, Gum Guggul, Guggula (Sanskrit)

Origin: An oleo-gum resin similar to Myrrh, yellowish in color

History: Inspired by an ancient Sanskrit text which pointed to Guggul as a treatment for obesity and associated lipid disorders it has recently come into prominence as an effective treatment for high blood cholesterol

Tradition: A well-known Ayurvedic herb for the treatment of arthritis
