Marshmallow is primarily used as a soothing, spasmolytic herb. Marshmallow can assist in relieving inflamed, mucous membrane surfaces of the Gastro-intestinal tract. It is also popular as an expectorant for the respiratory system. Part of the herb used is the Root.
Marshmallow is known to many as the fluffy white confectionary toasted at campfires. However today’s marshmallow confectionary contains none of the herb that shares its name.
The healing history of Marshmallow dates back several thousand years. It has been found that the mucilage content of the herb contributes to its demulcent properties, and is responsible for its soothing action. This soothing action makes it a useful herb in conditions showing irritation of the respiratory tract, such as to assist in the relief irritating coughs. It can also be of benefit to the digestive system, helping to relieve irritation of the gastrointestinal system.
In addition to the digestive and respiratory systems, Marshmallow has been found to help relieve inflammation of the urinary tract, particularly in conditions that can cause pain and burning upon urination. It can also be a useful support to other combinations requiring a soothing effect.

Active Ingredient
- Each ‘preservative free’ capsule contains 450mg of Althaea officinalis root powder.
Dosage
- For adults only: take two capsules with a meal three times daily.
