This herb is used as a specific for irritating bronchial coughs, especially in children. It may be used wherever there is copious catarrh formed as in cases of bronchitis or emphysema. It may be used in the treatment of asthma and bronchitic asthma. The bitter tonic properties stimulate and regulate disordered or weak digestions or weak digestions increasing the flow of bile. The plant is also used to expel worms and has long been used externally for scabies, herpes and skin diseases.
