Brahmi is an Ayurvedic medicine traditionally used to improve memory and mental capacity.

How it works
The memory enhancing and cognitive effects of Brahmi (Bacopa monniera) have been attributed to the active components saponins, in particular bacosides A and B. The mode of action is thought to be by the:
- Positive influence on many nerve endings found in the brain that are important for memory and cognition
- Antioxidant effects by neutralisation of free radical producing metals and by increasing the levels of antioxidant enzymes hence assisting in avoiding cell damage
Ginkgo's (Ginkgo biloba) main neuroprotective and cognitive enhancing effects have been attributed to:
- Improvement in blood circulation to the brain and associated increases in oxygen and nutrient supply.
Dosage
Adults - Take one tablet twice daily with meals, or as professionally prescribed.
Children (under 12 years) - Not recommended for children under 12 years.
Cautions
- Seek the advice of your healthcare professional before use in pregnancy.
- Inform your practitioner if you are using cardiovascular medication.
- Discontinue use at least 2 weeks before surgery. Ginkgo biloba may increase the risk of bleeding associated with surgery.
- Always read the label. Use only as directed.
Side Effects
- May cause mild laxative effect.
- On rare occasions, may cause mild headache or dizziness.

Bacopa monnieri (Brahmi) extract equivalent to dry whole plant
(standardised to contain bacosides 67.5mg) - 3 g (3000mg)
Ginkgo biloba (Ginkgo) extract equivalent to dry leaf
(standardised to contain ginkgo flavonglycosides 16mg and ginkgolides and bilobalide 4mg) - 3 g (3000mg)
Medicine Interactions
- Consult your healthcare professional before use if taking warfarin. Ginkgo biloba may increase the risk of bleeding with this medication.

A pale green-yellow, small round bi-convex tablet. Film coated.
